Can't see what's all the confusion about the battery compartment or installing the battery. Simply pull the trigger with a fingernail back towards the short end and slide cover back. Insert battery with + end down and slide to click the cover again. If unit doesn't work, battery dead or in backwards. If anyone needs instructions for this, I wouldn't want to see them put together a BBQ.
