Folic acid is vital to a healthy pregnancy, protecting DNA from damage and promoting cell growth that help reduce the risk of Spina bifida and cleft palate. In conjunction with B6 and B12, folic acid normalizes increased homocysteine levels which are associated with the build-up of plaques in the artery walls (atherosclerosis), which can lead to heart disease or stroke. Each dose contains 1 mg (1000 mcg) of folic acid, the recommended daily dose and the maximum permitted in a supplement.
